SELBYVILLE, Del. - "Our crowd never came until 11:30, and we have to stop serving at 11:30. Of course it crippled and killed us," says Pomeroy's Night Manager Lynn Pomeroy.
Lynn Pomeroy of Pomeroy's in Selbyville is speaking out about the liquor curfew ordinance that has all but destroyed his business. Back in March, the Selbyville Town Council unanimously approved an ordinance that prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages after 11:30PM and consumption after midnight.
"We really don't want a beef with the Town or anyone else. We have been here since 1924 we really like to get along. We've always been good partners with the Town," says Pomeroy.
However, Pomeroy can not help but speculate the Town's intensions, and says he feels somewhat targeted.
"We've gone from, we don't need anymore alcohol in this Town, we don't want that kind of reputation, to where we're considering a third liquor store in a Town that's already saturated with alcohol . . . it seems odd to me that a couple months ago, we had too much alcohol. This month, we need another liquor store," continues Pomeroy.
Selbyville Town administrator Robert Dickerson did not want to go on camera, but released this statement.
"Ever since we passed the ordinance, there have been no issues."
