BERLIN, Md. - The 11-year-old Berlin Little League All-Stars are heading to the state championships.
They beat Fruitland 16 - 3 in the District 8 Championship game and are poised to go all the way.
Last year they won the state championships and this year they're confident they'll knock it out of the park. "We have like a really good - like everybody can hit, so it's fun when you have a good team and you win," shortstop Tristan "T-Rex" McDonough said.
Undefeated this season, they have a lot to boast about. But they also know that it takes hard work to get there. "They know they have to work. They know they're not good enough to just rest on talent, because everybody's talented. Every team is talented. Whoever works the hardest is going to achieve their goals - it's the precedent we kind of set," Manager Cameron McDonough said.
Two time World Series champion with the Baltimore Orioles - Boog Powell made sure he came out to support his grandson Wes. "I'm very proud of him. I love it - I love coming out and watching the kids and watching their enthusiasm - remembering back during these times when I was a kid doing the same thing these boys are doing," Powell said.
Come Saturday, the boys hope their competitive nature, dedication and talent will carry them through. "It's just so cool - we can do it again because everybody knows who we are, and they put their best people up against us because they know we are a very good team," 3rd baseman Wesley Powell said.
The state championships will be held in Hurlock, MD this year.
