FEDERALSBURG, Md. - Three boys have drowned in a creek in Federalsburg, MD according to officials.
They say that 12-year-old Vladimir Petron Jacotin, his 11-year-old cousin, Christopher Toto Gabriel, and six-year-old Yamoude Dona were reported missing at 1:30AM on Sunday. They were last seen playing in the parking lot of the First Church of God on Bloomingdale Avenue at Old Denton Road around 5PM on Saturday.
A preliminary search was made Saturday night, but nothing was found. When the boys did not return home the next morning, a more serious search was initiated. Crews from the Federalsburg Police Department, Caroline County Sheriff's Department, the Maryland State Police, and Maryland Natural Resources; as well as personnel from Emergency Medical Services, Federalsburg Volunteer Fire Company, surrounding fire companies and Delmarva Search and Rescue volunteers and dogs conducted the search.
They found the body of the 12-year-old at 10AM Sunday morning in Marshyhope Creek behind a cluster of homes in the 100 block of Old Denton Road. The body of the 6-year-old was found 30 minutes later. The third body was located by the Mid-shore Dive Team about 20 feet from where the first body was found around 1:30PM.
Authorities say they are not speculating foul play and are calling this an accidental drowning - the coroner arrived at the scene and it appeared that the bodies were in good shape - they will be sent to Baltimore for an autopsy.
Marshyhope Creek is a part of the Nanticoke River and is said to be about 8 feet deep.
The investigation will be continued under the jurisdiction of the Natural Resources Police.
