DE Fire Fighters Speak To WMDT From Colorado Blaze

Posted: Updated:

WMDT 47 NEWS -- The Waldo Canyon Fire has been burning now for weeks in Colorado.

20 of the Delaware Wildland Fire Fighters are currently out west helping to battle the blaze.

They have 2 missions, both the Weber Fire in Colorado and the Waldo Canyon. Then they head to Wyoming to tackle another blaze.

WMDT spoke with Erich Burkentine of the Delaware Forest Service Friday, to learn they are not only dealing with the heat, but severe storms as well.

"We got back to camp unfortunately some of the guys tents didn't fair so well a couple piles of tents due to the high winds and then up until 10 o'clock last evening we have some 50 60 mile an hour wind associated with some heavy rain," he said.

They also tell us that the main focus of their mission is not just fighting the fire, but the rehabilitation process.
