WICOMICO CO., Md. - Another burn ban has been issued on Delmarva. Wicomico County says that with the high temperatures comes a higher risk of fire, so they have announced a burn ban that will go into effect on Thursday July 5th at 8 AM.
The ban will last for at least 7 days. The ban covers all outdoor burning, except: gas and charcoal grills, professional fireworks displays and campfires, that must be limited to 2 feet wide by 3 feet high. Violating the ban can carry a $500 fine per incident.
Officials are also asking the public to take the proper precautions when setting off fireworks on July 4th, and to keep a water source nearby. They suggest wetting the grass before setting them off, and wetting them down before throwing them away.
If you see a violation call 410-548-4860 during business hours, or the Sheriff's Office at 410-548-4891 all other times. With the burn ban in effect all burning permits are voided for the duration of the Burn Ban and the Health Department will not be issuing burning permits until further notice.
