Nicole Bennett - Family Update

Posted: Updated:

MILLSBORO, Del. - Maryland State Police are still saying very little in terms of Nicole Bennett's murder investigation. And the waiting game apparently weighs heavily on no one more so than the victim's family. WMDT's Emily Lampa tells us how they're doing.

"We're in the 3rd week and are we healed? No. Do we cry? Yeah." Bob Bennett admits he's exhausted. He says jokingly, "God and Caffeine" keeps him going through this tough time, supporting a grieving family. "One of the girls was telling me yesterday - as this kinda broke my heart - she said... "the day her mother let her out - she told me she said, I ran with my friend Kaley - I ran to be with her mother and I realized I hadn't kissed my mommy."

Nicole's husband, Kevin, is now back to work, but without Nicole the family admits the future looks bleak. With 3 children and 1 paycheck - Bob says his son struggles. "The amount of community support has just been huge."

But not all the feedback is positive. Online blogs abound, questioning why Kevin Bennett did not wait for his wife to come home the night she went missing. Others speculate, if he had anything to do with Nicole's murder.

Although Bob Bennett is confident, detectives believe his son is innocent, he admits the speculation is painful. "He beats himself up, but he shouldn't...he shouldn't." Even now, Bennett says their faith is unwavering. They still attend Bay Shore Community Church in Millsboro...the place where Nicole was working the night she disappeared. "it's our faith - and we're not questioning God - it's an evil world, evil things happen to good people - and we have to be protective. I think we're more protective than ever."

Maryland State Police investigators are in charge of Bennett's murder case since her body was discovered in Worcester County on June 15th. WMDT spoke with them today. Although they're still being tight lipped about details, they tell us the medical examiner concluded the autopsy, but they will not release the results.
