OCEAN CITY, Md. - Municipal elections in Ocean City will no longer be held in October. The Town Council voted five to two Monday night to move the date to November, to coincide with the General Election.
Supporters say the move could save the Town $9,000 and increase voter turnout. Councilman Joe Hall has been pushing for this change for 10 years. Monday, Councilman Brent Ashley, told WMDT the cons outweighed the pros.
Ashley said, "If you go to a one-day election, I think the individual local candidates, their attention will be much watered down."
But Hall said, "There has been some talk about the same day, but separate elections in the building and in different rooms and I'm not for that, I want a one stop."
The change takes effect this year. To prevent any confusion, there will be two separate voting areas, one for local and the other for national.
