Salisbury, MD -  "This is something I've dreamt about my whole life," says Sammie Starr, Delmarva Shorebird Infielder.  Turing pro in the sport of baseball is a dream come true for  Sammie. Starr played both shortstop and second base this year and knows that versatility could be his eventual ticket to the major leagues.

"To be a utility guy especially infield is a major part of my game and will help me climb the system faster being able to play more than one position," says Starr. Like most minor league players, Starr is working to improve his hitting skills knowing it will be a key factor in his promotion to the major leagues.

"Just being more consistent at the plate, working counts, not being too anxious there, making sure I get the right pitch to hit," says Starr.  Shorebird hitting coach Einar Diaz has seen significant progress in Starr's hitting, but knows close tutoring could help make more improvements.

"He can sometimes, his left hand can come down a bit, but he needs to be more aggressive in that and working his hip a little bit." says Einar Diaz, Shorebird Batting CoachStarr is a Toronto Canada native who had played four years at the University of British Columbia. How does he compare Canadian baseball to its US counterpart?

"Its not as popular as it is in the states but hockey's number one in Canada, obviously we can't play year round like some of the guys down south because of winter," says Starr Currently Sammy Starr has a 245 batting average with two home runs and 28 runs batted in.
