DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Jim Baeurle and Dewey Beach Enterprises are ready to break ground and give the local job market a much needed boost.
"We're excited to put a lot of people a lot of construction workers who have been out of work back to work," says Baeurle.
According to Baeurle, the multi-million dollar redevelopment project will keep people employed beyond the end of summer, which is prime time for most beach towns.
"We're going to be able to be open more on a year round basis and we will be able to retain a lot of our seasonal staff into year round employment," he says.
Construction is scheduled to begin at the end of next month, and the first phase of completion is slated to be July 2013.
"We're building a mix use property. That's going to have commercial activity on the ground floor, restaurants shopping hotel, and the above floors will be residential condominiums."
Dewey Beach residents have mixed feelings about the redevelopment project.
"I think the hotel would be a great idea. Bring more money and different things to the community," says one resident.
"Bad idea, because when you come to Rehoboth you have a hard enough time finding a parking space anyway. And let alone put another building there to knock down more parking spaces. It just makes it hectic for people who just want to come and enjoy themselves," says another resident emphatically.
