DELAWARE - Over 500 students are rolling up their sleeves for a good cause. The students are currently in Delaware for the "First State Work Camp." Dedication, devotion, and determination are what drives these kids to do good deeds. These students dedicated a week out of their summer to help repair broken homes in Sussex County.
"Coming here it's like you see like how you have it so much better than a lot of people actually do have it," says one student.
Sponsored by the Crash youth ministries of Mariner's Bethel United Methodist Church in Ocean View, these students came to the first state from as far away as Michigan and New Hampshire to give back.
"I feel closer with God everyday that I do work," says a student from Pennsylvania.
The repairs began on Monday, and these students will work on multiple homes through Friday. Repairing decks, sheds, and even a wheel chair ramp.
Residents who are receiving this Christian service are excited.
"It makes me personally feel very grateful that people can be gracious and I think that what their doing is a wonderful thing," says Larry Watt a resident who is currently getting his home worked on.
As for the students, seeing the gratitude of the homeowner means more to them than money.
"You feel like happy and when you see like your homeowner your resident smile, you smile," says a student from Virginia.
