Local Mom Featured On TLC's Extreme Couponing - WMDT 47 News - Delmarva's Choice

BERLIN, Md. - A local stay-at-home mom refuses to buy any groceries without a coupon. She was featured on TLC's "Extreme Couponing" Monday night.

Krista Brooks will go to almost any extreme for a good deal. Even with a second baby on the way, she has absolutely no problem digging through dumpsters for coupons. "You know you get just as many germs pumping gas or pushing a buggy at the grocery store. I've had a couple people stare at me like what is she doing? And they just walk on," said Brooks.

Her husband was skeptical at first, but is now on board after he realized just how much money they were saving. "I just thought it was a tremendous waste of time, but I started to notice that it wasn't costing me much money every week when she went to the store," said Johnny Brooks."Well, over a year later, $10,000 saved, it's amounted to quite a nice stock pile," said Krista.

The most she's ever saved - $750. "During that I broke three cash registers. The register didn't know what to do with all the coupons and all the merchandise because it never had that many scans. I didn't pay anything that day. I paid nothing. It was 100% savings. My receipt is actually over 18 feet long," said Krista.

She's not the only one reaping benefits. "I've been able to help out with our troops overseas, to shelters, to families in need. That's what it's all about - to be able to help others and my family," said Brooks.

It's a mission she's not done with just yet. "I'm never going to stop couponing, even if I win the lottery," said Brooks.
