SALISBURY, Md. - Ellen R. Walston, 57, of Salisbury died on Thursday, June 21st, 2012 at Coastal Hospice By The Lake after a long and brave battle with cancer. Born in Salisbury on April 3rd, 1955, she was the daughter of Pauline E. Downing Walston and the late Richard M. Walston.

Ms. Walston graduated from Wicomico Senior High School in 1973. She continued her education at the University of Maryland College Park, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977 and a Master of Library Science degree in 1984. Ms. Walston retired from Somerset County Public Schools after 30 years as a media specialist.

Through the years, she was involved with the Salisbury Wicomico County Arts Council, first as a volunteer on a number of projects, then as the executive secretary of the Board of Directors from 1989-1993. She was most recently involved as a board member of the Salisbury Film Society. A member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Master Gardeners, she also served as a Life Crisis hotline volunteer from 1988-1990 and was active in her teachers association, Somerset Education Association. In her spare time, she remained active in Pilates, yoga, tai-chi, golf and ballroom dancing. She loved to travel and enjoyed scrapbooking.

She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Otter; her mother, Pauline Walston; a brother, Thomas Paul Walston, all of Salisbury; numerous cousins; and a pet cat. In addition to her father, she was also preceded in death by an uncle, Steven V. Downing.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 at 3:00 pm at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury with a calling time from 2:00-3:00pm. Rev. Rob Townsend and Rev. Sharon Hutchison will officiate. Friends are invited to Ellen and Ed's home after the service. A private interment will be at Wicomico Memorial Park.
