OCEAN PINES, Md. - The Ocean Pines Association wants to give the yacht club, a major makeover.
"We have a building structure that's forty years old at the yacht club, and it's served us well over those forty years, but over that time, weather and being right there on the waterfront has taken it's toll on it," said Bob Thompson, General Manager.
It's a big investment, but one that is believed to benefit the future of the community. "It'll increase business, it'll increase revenue, and it'll be a wonderful place to come and bring your friends and family, It's an expensive project, but I think we have to be forward looking and realize that now is the time to do it," said Ellen Spatarow, resident.
The association has received a number of bids from different contractors looking to either rehabilitate or rebuild the facility - they've narrowed down 8 bids to present to board members. The board will look over the bids and determine whether or not to allow the project to go to a community vote. The project then lies in the hands of residents who will make a decision on moving forwards with the project.
Residents we spoke with admit it's time for change. "We haven't kept up with the community and the community's needs," said Spatarow. "If you walk inside, it's a very dark atmosphere," said Howard Schwartz, property owner.
General Manager Bob Thompson hopes the board will come to an decision by Tuesday. If it goes to ballot, over 8,000 property owners will have a say.
