Douglas Brockway "Dougie"
Ransford Bryan " Randy"
LEWES, Del. - The family of a murdered man is fighting to keep his killer behind bars. It's a fight they've been waging for more than two decades.
Peggy Truitt wants justice for her son Douglass Brockway - his life taken at the hands of Ransford Bryan back in 1987 - he was just 18 years old. "Doug was a fun loving kid. He enjoyed being around people, and his family was important to him so of course it just leaves a big void in my life. Randy decided that they needed to go squirrel hunting which my son loved to hunt and he lured my son into the woods, shot him three times in the base of the head and literally blew his head off," said Peggy.
Randy, attended Cape Henlopen High School with Dougie - they shared the same classes and were thought to be friends. When Randy's family kicked him out of the house, Dougie extended a helping hand and gave him a place to stay. Soon enough, Randy started stealing money from Dougie's bank account. And shortly after, Randy shot and killed him - he stripped him down, covered him in leaves and dirt and left his body in the woods. "He actually came into our house after he blew my son's head off, ordered pizza and sat down and watched T.V.," said Peggy.
Randy is now up for parole for the 4th time, and Dougie's family is doing everything they can to make sure he stays behind bars. "I have children and grandchildren, and I love my community - I don't want somebody like that in my community," said Peggy.
Dougie's younger brother Matt, wrote a poem expressing his anguish just two weeks after his death:
How dare you take my brother and best friend away
Then come back to my home for weeks and stay
Cowardly you fired that gun from behind
Left in the woods his flesh decaying for no one to find
You lied over and over about where Doug was at
What kind of monster does something like that
Trust, faith and goodness in mankind I am unable to see
All of that pain and anguish you gave that to me
The victim's family has started a Facebook page to help keep Bryan in prison. He'll go before the state parole board next Tuesday, June 19th. If you'd like to send a letter opposing Randy's parole, email douger4ever@gmail.com.
