POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Maryland officials honor one local school for their exceptional achievement.

Pocomoke Elementary School is one of 6 schools in the state to be recognized as a Blue Ribbon School on the basis of rigorous state and national requirements for high achievement and dramatic improvement. The students in each of the schools excel on state assessments in reading and mathematics.

State officials touring the award winning schools, made their stop in Pocomoke Wednesday. As part of this achievement, the school gets 6 thousand dollars to be used toward smart board products, 2 thousand dollars to be used as the school chooses, and a pizza party for the students in the fall.
