Food Lion Bomb/ Salisbury, MD

A bomb squad member from the Maryland State Fire Marshal's office was called to the scene of Food Lion --off of Tilghman road in Salisbury.

At eight forty two in the morning Salisbury Police along with three other state and local response teams were called in to secure the area.

Management from Food Lion notified authorities about a suspicious device that was laying in the parking lot. But there was probable cause for alarm as the mysterious item had the look and making of a hand grenade.

"we were able to determine that the device was not a real grenade it was a very realistic toy". " plastic like replica of a grenade". Says, Lieutenant Everett Howard, Salisbury Police Department

But toys that are made to resemble a real weapon can be a "real" problem for police. "those toys and items like that misplaced can cause some serious concern....its good to keep those up in safe places especially if your dealing with children". Says, Lieutenant Howard

Despite the fact that a toy was only found at the scene, Salisbury Police are still investigating the matter. Salisbury Fire Department and the Maryland State Police were also involved in the  response. Police do not know who owned the toy.
