SNOW HILL, Md. - Karen Ronnell Payne, 51, of Snow Hill, Maryland died on Monday, May 14, 2012, at her residence, following a heroic battle against pancreatic cancer. Born Sunday, January 8, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the wife of Lee Payne of Snow Hill. Karen was a graduate of Salisbury University and was employed by Caldwell Banker in Ocean City as an assistant manager in vacation rentals prior to her illness. She was a member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women and served as a counselor for the Chi Rho Youth Group, a former member of the Worcester County Arts Council and a teacher and performer of Irish Step Dance and Clogging in the Eastern Shore area.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her mother, Emma K Bildhauer and her husband, Harold of Spring Hill, FL; three sons, Gavin Jernigan of Snow Hill, Joshua Jernigan of Nashville, TN and Mark Payne of Mechanicsville, MD, one daughter, Samantha Mason and her husband Brian of Snow Hill; one sister, Wendy Sue Freshwater and her husband Jim of Sewickley, PA.; her father, F. Ronald Woodsum of NC; her mother-in-law, Lorraine Payne of Pocomoke City; her brother-in-law, Micah Payne of Pocomoke City and two nieces, Emma Lee Decker and Katy Rose Decker. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Leon Payne.

A memorial service, officiated by Pastor Andrew Frick, will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday at Whatcoat United Methodist Church in Snow Hill, MD. Interment will be private.
