Meggin McKnight
WEST OCEAN CITY, Md. - A woman has been charged after allegedly stealing the money from three fundraisers for homeless animals. Meggin McKnight is the former director of the Worcester County Humane Society, she held that position for around 4 years.
There are now three active cases out of the District Court of Maryland, accusing her of keeping the money from fundraisers intended for the humane society, for herself. The Worcester County Bureau of Investigation have conducted multiple investigations into McKnights alleged actions.
Authorities report that they know of three instances, one in February, where the Humane Society reported that cash had been removed from the cash box in the office, after an investigation McKinight was charged with four counts of Theft less that $100 and Theft Scheme under $1000.
They say in the second incident the Crab Alley Restaurant held a fundraiser that raised around $230, and various supplies for the Humane Society, all of which were given to McKnight, but never made it to the Humane Society. McKnight was charged with theft less than $1,000 in this case.
In the third case authorities report that in October and December of 2011 the Paws and Claws Store raised around $240, which again was given to McKnight and never received by the shelter. McKnight was charged with one count of Theft less than $100, one count of Theft less than $1,000 and Theft Scheme less than $1,000 for the third case.
McKnight was served a criminal summons for these cases and will report to court in early June.
