Jurors deliberate in Md. robocalls case

BALTIMORE (AP) - Jurors have resumed deliberations in the trial of a campaign consultant accused of using Election Day robocalls to suppress black voter turnout in the 2010 gubernatorial election. Jurors began deliberations Wednesday afternoon and returned Thursday morning to a Baltimore courthouse to continue considering the case against Julius Henson. The consultant worked for Republican former Gov. Robert Ehrlich's campaign during his rematch with Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley.

Henson is charged with influencing or attempting to influence a voter's decision whether to go to the polls through the use of fraud, publishing campaign material without an authority line and conspiracy. Prosecutors called Henson's claim that the calls were a counterintuitive effort to stimulate voter turnout "ridiculous." Henson's attorney told jurors that prosecutors are playing on their emotions.
