Posted: Updated:

NEWARK, Del. (AP) - A University of Delaware police officer has been charged with harassing a female student who ended a relationship with him. Authorities said 31-year-old Demetrius Sharp of Kennett Square, Pa., was arrested Wednesday following an investigation. Police said the 21-year-old student ended a relationship with Sharp in February, then began receiving harassing text, email and voice messages from him over the next three days.

Authorities also said Sharp tried to contact the woman while on duty as a uniformed police officer, including parking outside her home and shining a spot light into her windows. Sharp is on administrative leave from the university. After turning himself in to Newark police, he was charged with harassment and official misconduct and released on $4,000 unsecured bond. Sharp says it's all a big misunderstanding.
