SALISBURY, Md. - The City of Salisbury Fire Department has a new piece of equipment. Monday, the new Fire Rescue Rapid Response Vessel arrived at the City Marina. Mayor Jim Ireton and Chief Rick Hoppes were on board for the final leg of the delivery as it arrived at the Port of Salisbury.

The boat is designed as an emergency vessel for the Salisbury surrounding areas. Mayor Jim Ireton says the vessel is a great addition, "The boat runs about 40 knots. it can stop on a dime within 36 feet, it can stop within it's length. I was on the boat out on the river coming down from White Haven, that's where they picked me up. There was a stopping and turning that happened so fast, but it is designed to be an emergency vessel."

Officials say some firefighters are already trained to use the boat, but they will be running training sessions, so most of their staff will know the ins and outs of the vessel.
