BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - A Georgetown man is charged with driving under the influence after allegedly drifting into oncoming traffic.
Delaware State Police are investigating an accident in which they say Pedro Hernandez, 25, was driving a 1997 Toyota Celica Eastbound on SR 404 and drifted into the Westbound lane where an unloaded tractor trailer was driving. Police say that the driver of the tractor trailer, Randall Merritt, was able to bring his truck into the shoulder before the Celica struck the back wheels, the trailer then rode over the car before both vehicles came to a stop.
Hernandez and his two passengers were removed by EMS and transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Merritt was not injured during the crash. Hernandez was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without a valid licence, and no proof of insurance. The roadway was closed for an hour as the crash was investigated but has since been cleared and re-opened.
