Easton Man Walking In Salisbury Kidney Walk After Receiving Transplant

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. -- Joshua Fleckenstein is one of the lucky ones. He was diagnosed with kidney disease 6 years ago. But just last year he got a phone call on his birthday, letting him know he'd receive the greatest gift of all. He would receive a kidney transplant.

"Apparently they sung happy birthday in the operating room but they knocked me out so quick, I saw the kidney and I woke up with it inside," he tells us.

Now he's giving back. Joshua is an active skier, walker, and runner. He is hitting the pavement in Salisbury for one very big reason. To raise awareness on the life saving treatment that gave him his stride back.

"Just to get it out there, there are 26 million people in the world that need kidney transplants. Millions die every year because they don't get on the list I think there's 86 thousand on the list I was on the list for 3 months."

Joshua is not the only one in his family dealing with the disease. Both his sister and father were also diagnosed, but luckily received transplants as well.

"Sign up to be a donor. If something happens to you you can help up to 50 people."

The walk is on Sunday May 6th at Winterplace Park in Salisbury. Registration is at 9am and the walk kicks off at 10. For more information you can call 410-546-1969
