SALISBURY, Md. – Women across the nation are taking part in a new trend called pole fitness. It's not stripping, and it's that misconception owner of Pole Power Studios is trying to clear up.
WMDT spoke with Angela Houck, an instructor at Pole Power Studios in Salisbury.
"Pole fitness is basically a combination of physical fitness and feminine movement and you combine it into an incredible mind and body workout for the average everyday woman," she says.
The idea is really catching on, on Delmarva.
The idea is to build strength by using the pole for pull ups, push- ups, and eventually dance routines. Local women are seeing results.
"There was a time that you wouldn't see my arms out in public anywhere and now I'm not so hesitant to wear a sleeveless shirt," Karla Christie tells us before she joins in on class.
Jennifer Zeigenfus was a gymnast before she tried pole fitness, and claims she see has gotten stronger by working out with a pole.
"I've lost an inch and a half off my waist I've lost 10 pounds which I didn't even think I needed to lose but it's kind of exciting to be able to say that, plus mentally you gain confidence and my posture has even improved."
Classes are held at studios in Ocean City and Salisbury. They range from beginner to advance.
