WOODWARD, Okla. - Residents are scouring through damaged homes in western Oklahoma and Iowa after overnight tornadoes swept through the nation's midsection, killing at least five people and injuring dozens.

The National Weather Service says more than 100 tornadoes had been reported across the Midwest and Plains by early Sunday. Strong thunderstorms are expected as far east as Michigan, but forecasters say the storm system is weakening and additional tornadoes are unlikely.

In the western Iowa town of Thurman, piles of toppled trees lined the streets in front of homes with missing walls and roofs.

Neighbors say they're amazed no one was seriously injured. But five people were killed when a tornado ripped through a mobile home park in Woodward in northwestern Oklahoma, where
streets were dotted with mangled vehicles, toppled power lines and leveled buildings.
