MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - Delaware State Police are investigating a fiery crash in Middletown that killed a 17-year-old and injured four other people.
Authorities say a Dodge Durango was traveling at a high rate of speed on Summit Bridge Road when the driver lost control at Bethel Church Road, crossed a concrete median and was struck by a Chevrolet Suburban about 6:15 p.m. Thursday. The accident caused the Dodge to catch fire.
Police say the driver and two passengers in the backseat got out of the vehicle and were treated at a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. The front-seat passenger, Andre K. Smith, was pulled from the vehicle by a passerby. Authorities say he was pronounced dead at a hospital.
The driver of the Chevrolet was also taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
