SALISBURY, Md. - The Quota Club in Salisbury could hold the key to success for six students in Wicomico county.
"Many students in this area work hard so that they can proceed with their education, and for some of them it's a real problem," said Quota member, Kathleen Wiersberg.
Students listen up! If you've got college on the brain, but just don't know how to pay for it, Quota International is hoping to share their wealth. They want to help send five Wicomico County students to school, and help one student already enrolled at Wor-Wic.
"We feel we'd like to contribute. We give them a $1,000 and each year we want to raise that if we can," said Wiersberg.
The Quota Club got started in the early 1900's with four women determined to help students succeed.
"Quota is the Latin word for we 'share' and that was their goal, to share what they had with the children that so badly needed it," she said.
Since then, the organization has grown tremendously, with members in 13 countries. Sticking with their original motto, they will give to a student that has given back to their community.
"The high school students have to have has a good four years of giving back to the community in some civic way," said Wiersberg.
Again, there is six $1,000 scholarships available, good for any college expense, an opportunity too good to pass up. The deadline to apply is March 28th. For more information about the scholarship, contact the Delmarva Education Foundation at 410-219-3336, or click on the DEF logo.
