Clean-Up At The Lot
Groundbreaking Ceremony
Activity began on the property during the split week of last week of
January/first week of February. 2012. On
February 1, 2012, the HALO staff and volunteers worked side by side with the
guests of the HALO Café to clear the lot.
A dumpster and pickup truck were brought in and work began in
earnest. Salvageable wood was put in the
truck to be recycled on another site.
Trash and large weeds were tossed into the dumpster. Pallets were stacked to later be recycled
into new life as compost bins.
On February 3, a groundbreaking was held and the public was
invited. Thirty or so people attended
including the Mayor of Salisbury, Jim Ireton, County Council members Bob Culver
and Gail Bartkovich, Lee Whaley from Senator Ben Cardin's office and Tamara
Lee-Brooks from County Executive Rick Pollitt's office. Local officials were joined by the HALO staff,
area residents, farmers and gardeners as well as guests of the Café.
