Alezes MatlockCAMBRIDGE, Md. - Alezes Matlock, age 80, died on February 7, 2012, close to her home after a short illness. She was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she received her education. In 1949, she married the love of her life, the late George Matlock, with whom she conceived three beautiful children and to whom she remained lovingly loyal and committed to for over 42 years. She dedicated her life to supporting her beloved husband and caring for her own children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and neighborhood children. To her family and all that knew her, she was affectionately known as "momma". "Momma" had a heart of gold and touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity. She may not have been Michelle Obama, but wherever she went, everyone knew her name. Her gentle, kind spirit was simply unforgettable. "Momma" loved singing and dancing, exercising with her peers at "the Center", teaching her great-grandkids proper coloring techniques, creating beaded jewelry, and reminiscing with family and friends about old times. Most of all, "Momma" loved the Lord with all of her heart. She was on the "Mother's Board" at her Baltimore home church, Living Word Christian Center, and she was a devoted member of her Eastern Shore Church, Jubilee Christian Fellowship. She always welcomed the opportunity to sing her rendition of her favorite song, "Heaven belongs to you, if you walk right..." or to do her "holy ghost" dance. She always read her bible and constantly prayed for all of her family and friends. No matter what the need, passing an exam, finding a good spouse, enduring an illness, she would always say, "I'm praying for you" and she would claim the victory "You're going to be alright." She was abundantly loved and she will be greatly missed by all whom her spirit touched!
She was the only child born to the late Oscar and Minnie Dickey. She will forever be remembered by her three (3) devoted children, Elaine Farrare(LaCurtis), Mary "Sylvia" Johnson (Pernell), and Hosea Matlock (Minerva); five (5) beloved grandchildren, Jeania White (Michael), Latina Forrest(Byron), Deesa Makell (Damian), Terrance "TJ" Matlock, and Sylana Matlock; seven (7) treasured great-grandchildren, Michael White, Jr., Jakira White, Davonte Griffin, Tyler Makell, Logan Forrest, Bryson Forrest, and London Forrest; a cherished friend and adopted family member, Fannie Flythe; and countless other cousins and friends.
Services will be Sat. 11 am at Jubilee Christian Center 415 Academy St Cambridge, MD with a viewing one hour prior. Interment in Reids Grove Cemetery.
