POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Girdletree-Gloria Twigg Richardson, 84, formerly of Pocomoke City, passed away early Sunday morning after a brief illness. Born in Deal Island on August 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Roland Twigg and Florence Taylor Twigg. Her husband of 63 years, Willard F. Richardson Jr. died March 29, 2009. Shortly after getting married and moving to Pocomoke, she worked at Birds Eye Frozen Foods. When NASA transferred her husband to Washington DC she became a housewife and continued to do so until her two children were mostly grown. She returned to work in 1977 as a desk clerk at the Quality Inn Motel. After 20 years she retired from there to baby sit her first grandchild in 1997. Gloria was an active member of the Bethany United Methodist Church and a past president of the Bethany United Methodist Women. She was a member and past president of the Pocomoke Ladies Fire Auxiliary for 49 years. Gloria was inducted into the Delmarva Volunteer Fireman's Association Ladies Auxiliary Hall of Honor for her dedicated service. She will always be remembered for her love and dedication to family. There was nothing she would not do for the benefit of her children and grandchildren. She loved her daughter and son in law like they were her own.

Gloria is survived by a daughter, Kim Carman and her husband, Billy, of Snow Hill; a son Willard Scott Richardson and his wife Janet of Girdletree; and two grandchildren, Grant Willard and Rachael Richardson; one nephew Terry Twigg of Princess Anne and two special friends, Louise Bozman and Chelsie McCready were very dear to her heart. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son Danny Ray Richardson and all of her siblings, Madeline Lloyd, Orville and Roland 'R.T' Twigg.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012, 1:00PM with a visitation 12:00-1:00 PM at Bethany United Methodist Church in Pocomoke. There will also be a visitation Wednesday February 8, 2012 from 6:00-8:00PM at Holloway Funeral Home in Pocomoke. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Bethany United Methodist Church, 205 Market St., Pocomoke City, MD, 21851.
