LEWES, Del. (AP) - Lewes City Councilwoman Barbara Vaughan says she has decided to retire.
The News Journal of Wilmington, Del., reports Vaughan decided not to run for another term in May. She says she is 82 and decided it's time for someone else to serve. She hopes a vacant seat on the council will encourage others to run.
Vaughan was first elected to the council in 2004 and has lived in Lewes since 1992. She says she first ran for a seat on the council because she wanted to help preserve the city's history. During her time, Vaughan helped make Canalfront Park a reality and supported the restoration of Second Street, as well as City Hall renovations.
