
SALISBURY, Md. - Graham Thurston Rowley, 79, of Salisbury, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury. Born in Hartford, CT, he was the son of the late William Thurston Rowley and Alice Scott Rowley.
He was an Episcopal priest for 43 years, having served parishes in Norwalk, CT, Goffstown, NH, Weymouth, MA, West Bangor and Wind Gap, PA, Baltimore, MD, Portsmouth, RI, and locally in Berlin, Salisbury, Tyaskin and Quantico. He graduated with a BA from Duke University (1954), a MA from the University of Illinois (1958), and a M. Div. from the Episcopal Divinity School (1968). He served his country as an officer in the US Air Force, holding the rank of Lieutenant. He appreciated classical music, and sang in the Duke Chapel Choir and the Duke Glee Club. In earlier years, he enjoyed collecting antique cars, especially Packards. He traveled many times to the coast of Maine, which he held in special fondness.
He is survived by a son, Daniel Thurston Rowley, and Daniel's wife, Lisa, of Los Angeles, CA; a daughter, Elizabeth Anne Rowley of Baltimore, MD; two grandsons, Isaac Wilcox Rowley and Nathan Thurston Rowley, both of Los Angeles, CA; a brother, David Scott Rowley and his wife, Sharron, of Ocean Hills, CA; a step brother, Monroe Chapman and his wife, Judy, of Old Lyme, CT and a step sister, Phyllis Fenander and her husband, Elliot, of Lincoln, VT.
A Celebration of his life will be held Monday, February 6, 2012 at 11:00 am at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 6457 Quantico Road, Quantico, MD, at which the Rt. Rev. James J. Shand, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Easton, will officiate and preach. Friends may visit with members of the family on Sunday, February 5, 2012 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 302 St. Alban's Drive, Salisbury.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Bloomfield, CT.
