OCEAN CITY, Md. - Veterans are inspiring local students to be all they can be. Army veteran, John Granite of the American Legion in Ocean City, tells WMDT how they are focusing their efforts on the future of America.
"We give to local youth programs, soccer programs, girl scouts, boy scouts, and the national headquarters has a scholarship program," said Granite.
That scholarship is available to any student on Delmarva, including those already enrolled in college. The applicant must be a child or grandchild of a member of post 166.
"We were very fortunate last September to fund all 12 of our applicants. The scholarships range anywhere from $500 to $1000," he said.
Granite says the amount will vary depending on how many students apply. However, once they receive the scholarship, it can be spent on any educational necessity.
"If they are enrolled in a program that requires a specific instrument for example, a nursing program may require a stethoscope or uniforms, so they can also use the money in that regard," he said.
The deadline to apply is August 1st. For more information about the scholarship, contact the Delmarva Education Foundation at 410-219-3336, or click on the DEF logo.
