WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. - Empowering women to enrich their lives through higher education - is what the Delmarva Republican Women of Worcester County are hoping to accomplish. And for the second year in a row, the organization will offer a $750 scholarship, named in memory of the founder and former president of the organization, Ann Granados.
"She was just very politically involved. She wanted to make Maryland the best it could be and to help women be the best they could be in politics," said Judy Baehman, of the Delmarva Republican Women.
Organizers say that's why they give one registered republican female student, on the shore, the opportunity to excel.
"The scholarship got started so we can empower more women to get back into school because the way the scholarship is set up, it's for women who are out of school and want to get back into school," said Baehman.
The applicant must currently be enrolled at Wor-Wic Community college or have been enrolled within the past three years. The money can be used for tuition, books, or other college costs.
"For us, we feel it's a worthy cause. This is a way for people to get back into the swing of going to school," she said.
