POCOMOKE CITY, Md. - Baltimore City students got a chance to showcase their thespian talents Saturday. The Delmarva Discovery Center hosted the National Aquarium's children's play, "Pirates of the Chesapeake" which focuses on environmental issues in our coastal bays. High School students involved in the aquarium's work study program perform these plays at local libraries to bring environmental messages to the public.
Kathy Fuller, the Youth Programs Coordinator for the National Aquarium says, "The mission at the aquarium is to inspire conservation of the world's aquatic treasures. So, these students are ambassadors of the aquarium, bringing that message out, but also they are given opportunities to actually take action in things like the plantings and the scientific research." Students work at the aquarium 3 days a week after school, and are given opportunities to acquire job skills, attend field trips to colleges, and participate in conservation events.
