WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. - It's crunch time for high school seniors, seeking higher learning. Many are already applying to schools, but others are probably feeling a little discouraged by those five figure tuition costs. Well members of the Worcester County AARP Chapter 1917 wants to help.
"We award one scholarship a year of $1,000 which is broken down into two payments, one for each semester," said Chairman of the Scholarship Committee, Norma Jean Bull.
Over 130 AARP members pitch in every year to send a local student from Stephen Decatur High School, to the college of their dreams.
"I myself have had a daughter that went to college and three grandchildren, so I know the responsibility that falls on the students and parents," said Bull.
The scholarship is need-based. Also, students must keep at least a 3.0 GPA and live in the Ocean City, Ocean Pines, or Berlin area.
The application can be picked up at Stephen Decatur High School. The deadline to apply is April 2nd. For more information call the Delmarva Education Foundation at 410-219-3336.
