UPDATE: Delaware State Police Reopen Cold Case Hoping For New Details

Posted: Updated:

BRIDGEVILLE, Del. - No justice for this Georgetown man brutally murdered almost 3 years ago to the day. Police say 25-year-old Michael Chicosky was stabbed to death then dumped in a field. Michael's body was discovered in a remote area along Apple Tree road by a passerby. Police believe a struggle took place between he and his killer, and say he may have been dragged through the field then left for dead. Hours before that, Michael was last seen driving his car through Bridgeville with a friend and another acquaintance. An hour after his story aired on the news, Michael's car was set on fire near a local storage center.

"It appeared that the press release that evening triggered whoever had the vehicle to go out and burn it," said Homicide Detective Mark Ryde of the Delaware State Police.

One man says he remembers seeing the car engulfed in flames, feet from his house, but didn't know it was tied to the murder.

"Police came and asked if we knew anything, but we didn't know what was going on. They were all there by then, but it was right there next to me," said Bridgeville resident, Buddy Hallowell.

Police say the men he was driving with were the last ones to see him alive. Both were questioned, but detectives say there wasn't enough evidence to make an arrest. Now investigators have reopened the case hoping new information will surface.

"I think it's great when they can reopen a cold case. Hopefully it will stir someone's memory so they'll come forward and we'll find the man or woman or whoever did this terrible thing," said Seaford resident, Theda Brittingham.

If you know anything, call Detective Mark Ryde at 302-741-2730 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
