Salisbury Airport Announces Non-Stop Service To Orlando

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - Exciting news for travelers on the Eastern Shore. Allegiant Air is offering nonstop flights from the Salisbury airport to Orlando, Florida. It's a flight the airport has been trying to book since 2008. Three years later, Allegiant has been cleared for take off. "Orlando and Central Florida are the number one origin destination markets for passengers flying through this airport," said Bob Bryant, the manager at the Salisbury Airport.

Since 1989, Bryant says U.S. Airways has been the only air carrier on the Peninsula offering flights to Philadelphia and Charlotte.  Allegiant will be flying out with a much larger aircraft than U.S. Air, and one of the selling points to choosing the airport was the runway extension that added an additional 900 feet. "So we're looking to the Delmarva community to really embrace our service and ensure we can survive on two flights a week," said Kristine Cooper, Public Relations Manager for Allegiant.

The flights will start leaving the gate February 16th, and Allegiant will be offering introductory fares starting as low as $59.99 one-way. It's a pretty convenient deal according to Shane Spinella, an Orlando native. "It'll make it a lot quicker definitely, be able to just travel straight from Salisbury to Orlando rather than the layover in Charlotte as you usually would get," said Spinella.

The flights to Orlando will seat up to 166 passengers.  Officials say you will need to arrive two hours early to help deal with the crowds.
