Phased Evacuation Issued In Somerset County, MD

SOMORSET COUNTY, Md. - Somerset County Commissioners have recommended a phased evacuation.

Smith Island Will be Voluntary evacuated Friday, August 26th with assistance from emergency officials -- Washington High school.  Residents will be picked up at the Ewell and Tylerton docks at 3pm Friday for transportation to the mainland and then onto the shelter. Washington high school is a designated red cross facility and has been designated as Somerset county's hurricane shelter. It will open at 4pm on Friday, August 26th for Smith Island evacuees.

Other areas of Somerset County have a recommended evacuation order starting Saturday morning August 27th at 8 am. These evacuees can register at Washington High School anytime after 8am Saturday morning.
