Lewes Woman Allegedly Put Drugs In Child's Sandwich

LEWES, Del. - A Lewes woman has been arrested for allegedly putting drugs in her child's sandwich.

Delaware State Police say Joanna Dize, 33, is facing multiple charges including unlawful administering of a drug and child endangerment.

Dize was allegedly crushing Oxycodone and then placing it into her 11-year-old son's peanut butter sandwich for him to eat. Police say Dize was trying to deceive analysis testing her for substance abuse when she reports to have her prescriptions refilled.

On June 8, Dize is alleged to have gone to her monthly appointment at Compassionate Pain Management and provided a urine sample as required. Police say the urine sample is used to determine whether the client is properly utilizing their prescription medication.

Police say when Dize's specimen was analyzed officials found amounts of opiates and Oxycodone. Authorities say a second test was performed; however, this sample also contained cocaine. Police say based on preliminary information, the samples supplied by Dize on June 8 were from two different individuals. After further investigating, police say one of the samples were from her son.

Dize was arrested on August 22 and released after she posted $11,000 secured bond. Police say the 11-year old victim and two other siblings are currently in the custody of the Division of Family Services.
