UPDATE: Man Surrenders To Police In Laurel Home

LAUREL, Del. - A slew of officers from all over the state of Delaware were on scene Sunday morning for an alleged standoff in Laurel.

It took four hours and several police agencies including SWAT and bomb units to get a Laurel man to surrender. Police say they were called to his home on the 10000 block of Dogwood Road in the Laurel Village Mobile Home Park just before 9 AM Sunday morning. "I came back here and the state police had each end of the road blocked off on Dogwood," said Michael Hnot, who lives directly across the street.

"We saw SWAT vehicles come in and out, there was probably about 50 personnel from state police here, it was crazy," said Edward Truitt, who was one of many wondering what was happening. @

Police say the welfare of the man was at extreme risk as he allegedly barricaded himself in his home. Police forced local residents to evacuate while they attempted to get the situation under control. Meanwhile, everyone was searching for answers. "There were so many police around here they wouldn't let nobody know nothing," said Hnot.

Neighbors tell WMDT they learned the man allegedly called his girlfriend Sunday morning telling her he was going to take his own life. Hours later he finally surrendered to police, and everyone was allowed back in their home. He is now at the hospital for an evaluation, but neighbors say he is just a regular nice guy. "Just a normal guy I talked to him every time he'll come out he'll wave. Just a normal guy," said Truitt.

No one was hurt and the situation is still under investigation. Police say it has not been determined if any charges will be filed.
