Salisbury, MD. Last weekend, Grannies Greenthumb and Griffith (and their significant others) took a spin up to Kennett Square, PA, for the opening of Christmas at Longwood Gardens. An annual event, this year did not disappoint!
The 4.5 acre heated indoor Conservatory means that no matter what the weather, it's a "must see". With hundreds of amarayllis, narcissus and cyclamen, thousands of poinsettias, a G-gauge Christmas Train, nineteen miles of cord and half a million brilliant lights, it is a winter wonderland beyond description.
In addition to touring the gardens, the Grannies participated in the first of the daily organ accompanied sing-alongs. While possibly tone-deaf, the Grannies sang with all the enthusiasm of the season….and no one seemed to mind since the enthusiasm for caroling was universal.
If you're thinking about heading up that way, some additional indoor events (in addition to the festive gardens) to consider might include:
Want something special for the Gran'babies? We suggest a "Breakfast With Santa" held December 11, 12, 18 and 19 at the Terrace Restaurant. Seating times are 8AM and 9:30AM. Kids age 12 and up and adults are $40 each, Garden Pass Members are $32, children (ages 5-11) are $18 and children 4 and under are free. Bring your camera and prepare to have a good time. Suggest call for availabilities.
As always, it's just prudent to check the Longwood website for last-minute changes and/or availabilities before heading out. While you're on the site, it's also a good time to sign up for their monthly e-newsletter.
The Gardening Grannies are a mature group of avid and Master Gardeners who live, love and garden on the Delmarva Peninsula. We can be reached at email@example.com and we look forward to hearing from you.
