Maple syrup adds flavor to this low-fat, low-calorie cornbread recipe.

Makes 10 servings

Ingredients:

1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup cornmeal
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 egg whites
3/4 cup low-fat milk
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 T canola oil

In a bowl, combine flour, cornmeal, baking powder and salt. In another bowl, beat egg white; add milk, syrup and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour into a 9-inch baking pan that has been coated with cooking spray. Bake at 400 degrees F for 20 to 22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack for 10 minutes; cut into squares. Serve warm.
