SPORTS IN A MINUTE:
(Updated 6 times a day)

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -

Utah Jazz forward Andrei Kirilenko missed today's practice because of a problem with his visa, a day before Utah hosts the Lakers in Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals. The Jazz returned to Salt Lake City early today after last night's 111-104 loss in L.A. that put them in a 3-2 hole in the best-of-seven playoff series.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) -

Jacksonville Jaguars defensive tackle Rob Meier has a new four-year contract extension. He's replacing three-time Pro Bowler Marcus Stroud in the starting lineup this season.

CHICAGO (AP) -

Six days after being released by San Diego, Jim Edmonds is in the Chicago Cubs' starting lineup against the visiting Padres. An eight-time Gold Glove and four-time All-Star, the 37-year-old Edmonds strained his right calf in a spring training game in early March and started the season on the disabled list. He was activated on April 5th and batted .178 in 26 games with one homer and six RBIs.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -

The Brewers put reliever David Riske (RIHS'-kee) on the 15-day disabled list because of a hyperextended right elbow and purchased the contract of journeyman minor league pitcher Mark DiFelice. Riske left last night's 6-4 loss to the L.A.

Dodgers immediately after injuring himself in the eighth inning.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) -

Detroit's Gary Sheffield lasted just five games as a left fielder before shifting to designated hitter for today's outing against the Kansas City Royals. Sheffield had right shoulder surgery during the offseason to repair a labral tear and his throwing remains restricted. He sat out yesterday's game.
