DELMAR, De - With a Henlopen South win over Woodbridge, it would be safe to say that Delmar would receive a favorable seed in the DII State Playoffs right? Well, think again.
The Wildcats would take down the Blue Raiders on November 10th, 28-21, capturing the Henlopen South Crown and an automatic bid to the Delaware Division II State Playoffs.
Delmar would learn their fate just days later, seeding 8th in an eight team playoff bracket. If the Wildcats wanted to raise that trophy, they were going to have to do it on the road.
First, Delaware Military Academy, the top overall seed in the DII bracket. Delmar would find themselves in a 13-0 hole early in the first half. But a new team would emerge out of the locker room in the second, ripping of 34 straight and upsetting the #1 seed 34-13.
Next, a semi final matchup with AI DuPont. Just like the Wildcats, DuPont would enter postseason play 9-1, topping Howard in the quarterfinals 36-28.
Different opponent, same result. Led by junior Tailback Te'Shawn Dennard's eight rushing touchdowns, Delmar would route DuPont 56-21, setting up a championship matchup with Milford.
And that's where "Search for Seven" comes in. Delmar's motto all season long as the Wildcats look to capture the seventh state title in program history.
Delmar had Milford's number November 3rd, topping the Bucs 35-10. But with all the marbles on the line Saturday night, both teams should expect a dog fight.
