SALISBURY, Md. - A man was arrested, after police say he is responsible for multiple robberies including a bank and a store, in Salisbury.
The Salisbury Police Department says on Wednesday, around 2:15 PM, officers responded to the PNC Bank, in 1800 block of North Salisbury Boulevard, reports of a bank robbery, in Salisbury. Once on scene, police learned from bank employees that an unmasked man came into the bank and demanded money. According to the report, the suspect went into the bank and displayed a note demanding money from the bank employees. Officers say the employee gave the man an undisclosed amount of money. The man then reportedly fled the scene.
Authorities report that they shared the description of the suspect with other law enforcement agencies in efforts to catch the offender. While searching for the suspect, law enforcement says a deputy with the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office noticed a man fitting the description of the suspect involved in the Bank robbery. At that time, police say the suspect was driving a vehicle which fit the description of the vehicle used during a robbery that happened at Dollar General earlier that day, in Salisbury. The suspect was apparently identified as 51-year-old Derrick Deshields, of Salisbury.
According to Salisbury PD, the deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle which led to a chase that ended in the area Clay Street and East Isabella Street. Authorities say while Deshields refused to stop the vehicle, he then hit a parked vehicle and a building coming to a stop next to the building, on Clay Street. The building and the vehicle received minor damage during the incident. After coming to a stop, Deshields then allegedly got out of the vehicle and and attempted to flee on foot. Police say after a short foot pursuit, Deshields was arrested members of the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office and the Salisbury Police Department.
While continuing their investigation of the bank robbery, police say they determined that Deshields was the same suspect who robbed the Dollar General, on Tuesday, in the 1000 block of North Salisbury Boulevard.
Deshields was charged with two counts of robbery and theft.
He is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center.
The Salisbury Police Department reports that they were assisted by the Maryland State Police and Wicomico County Sheriff's Office in arresting the suspect.
