Salisbury man facing charges after alleged Wicomico County bank robbery

SALISBURY, Md. - A Salisbury man is facing charges, after police say he robbed a bank in Wicomico County.

The Salisbury Police Department says that they responded to the PNC Bank, on W. Isabella Street, around 2:00 PM for a report of an armed robbery, on Friday. Once on scene, police say that employees reported that a masked suspect came into the bank and demanded money. After further investigation, police learned that after entering the bank, the suspect displayed a note while demanding money from the bank employees. According to the report, the suspect implied that he had a weapon, and bank employees gave the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect then fled from the bank on foot. Authorities say that Hank, the Salisbury Police Department K-9, began a track for the suspect that was eventually unsuccessful in finding the man. Police were able to capture CCTV still images of the suspect, while he was in the bank.

Authorities say that no injuries were reported. After reviewing the CCTV footage, examining evidence, and information gathered from witnesses, Police identified 52-year-old Erland Edward Roessler III of Salisbury, as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued. Late in the evening on Friday, police executed a search warrant at the home of Roessler, and found evidence related to the investigation. A weapon was not found. Roessler was then arrested and transported to the Wicomico County Detention Center.

Roessler was charged with armed robbery, robbery, assault, and theft. He awaits an initial appearance before a district court commissioner.
