SALISBURY, Md. - Salisbury Police say a Salisbury man has been arrested after an alleged burglary and sexual assault on Thursday.
At around 11:30 PM, officers responded to reports of a woman screaming in the 500 block of Georgia Avenue. Officers say they made contact with a woman who said a man had entered her home while she was inside with her 3-year-old grandchild. Police say officers immediately secured the residence and made sure the child was safely evacuated.
Police say the suspect had reportedly broken into the residence before the woman and grandchild returned home, interrupting the suspect's burglary in progress. The suspect reportedly sexually assaulted the grandmother and assaulted the child.
The woman was able to run out of the residence to scream for help, police said. She and the child were both treated and released from Peninsula Regional Medical Center for their injuries.
Police were soon able to locate the suspect, 20-year-old Sunday Ebere Aroh, who officers say had stolen property from the home in his possession. He additionally had 270 grams of marijuana, officials said. While in custody, police report that Aroh assaulted a Salisbury Police officer.
Investigators were able to link Aroh to an earlier burglary in the 100 block of Onley Road. There were no injuries in that incident, police said.
Aroh is charged with first and second degree attempted rape, multiple sex offense counts, multiple counts of second degree assault, two counts of first degree burglary, fourth degree burglary, attempted theft, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, two counts of false imprisonment, attempted theft between $1,000 and $10,000 and attempted theft under $1,000.
Police say the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on these incidents is encouraged to call Salisbury Police at 410-548-3165.
