UPDATE: Berlin man sought for questioning in connection with fatal hit and run

BERLIN, Md. - A Berlin man has been identified as a person of interest after troopers say a person died as result of a hit and run crash, in Worcester County.

Maryland State Police say on Sunday, just before 10:10 PM, troopers with the MSP Berlin Barrack responded to the area of MD 589 and Gum Point Road for a motor vehicle crash involving a bicycle.Once on scene, troopers determined that the operator of the bicycle suffered severe trauma. Police say the individual operating the bicycle was then taken to Atlantic General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

According to the report, the driver of the vehicle involved in the the crash fled the scene. Police say 59-year-old Jonathan Torin Kider, of Berlin, is identified as a person of interest and he is sought for questioning regarding the fatal hit and run. 

Authorities report that the victim in the crash has been identified, but the name is being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin. Law enforcement says Worcester County Sheriff's Department, Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Ocean City Police Department, Delaware State Police, Berlin Fire Department and Maryland State Highway Administration assisted in the investigation.
