LITTLE HEAVEN, Del. - A fatal two vehicle crash remains under investigation, after authorities say a woman died as a result of the incident, in Kent County.
Delaware State Police say on Monday, just before 6:00 AM, a 58-year-old Houston woman was driving a 2007 Kia Spectra northbound on Bay Road (SR1), just north of Mulberrie Point Road, in Little Heaven. Troopers say for unknown reasons, the Kia crossed the center median and began to spin counter-clockwise before entering into the southbound lanes. According to the report, a 36-year-old Dover man was driving a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe southbound on SR1 in the same vicinity and was unable to avoid hitting the Kia on the right front passenger side. The car was apparently pushed southbound after the impact, and came to a stop on the right shoulder of the southbound lanes.Troopers say the Santa Fe continued a short distance southbound and rotated counter-clockwise before coming to a stop.
According to authorities, both drivers were properly restrained at the time of the crash. Troopers say the 58-year-old woman was removed from the scene and taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital (KGH) where she was pronounced dead. Her name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
The 36-year-old driver was also taken to KGH where he was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.
The DSP Collision Reconstruction team are continuing to investigate the crash. Officials say alcohol and drugs are not contributing factors in this case.
SR1 northbound, north of Mulberrie Point road was closed for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
